ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University hosted the Braves of Alcorn State University on the newly dedicated Stribling-Harris Court, dropping the contest 88-77.
Mississippi Valley entered the contest with a roaring crowd cheering them on. During the first half, the action was frenzied and baskets were landing from all directions. Whereas, the Braves were shooting from the three-point perimeter, the Delta Devils were not afraid to drive the ball inside for the score. With a score of 46-41 at halftime, MVSU was within striking distance of Alcorn.
Mississippi Valley's stance defensively was strong as they pulled down 22-defensive rebounds, however the outside shot proved to be problematic. A stretch of missed baskets for the Delta Devils allowed the Braves to move ahead in the contest, making a rally more difficult for MVSU.
Marcus Romain was on FIRE, scoring 30-points for the Delta Devils. He also added five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Isaac Williams tallied 16-points, eight rebounds and one assist, while Rashaan Surles finished with 11-points.
Mississippi Valley will face the Southern University Jaguars on Monday, February 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Think Pink game. Fans wearing pink MVSU or pink breast cancer t-shirts will be admitted for $5.00.
