ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University hosted the third ranked Jaguars of Southern University, succumbing 81-72.

The Mississippi Valley State pep band entertained the crowd between games, playing non-stop, to keep everyone engaged. With a variety of tunes, there was something for everyone. The tactic worked, as the Delta Devils entered the court, the crowd was electrified. Before the roaring crowd, Isaac Williams was recognized for his hard work in reaching 1000 career points in three years of playing for MVSU.

In the opening half, both teams entered with fire coursing through their vines. In a heated back-and-forth, the Delta Devils were able to maintain a strong defensive stance. MVSU pressured SU utilizing the full court for their defensive strategy. A layup at the buzzer by Southern took MVSU into the halftime break down 35-33.

The second half, the energy of the Delta Devils shifted. The team was present on the contest until the five-minute mark. During the final stretch, the Jags were able to seal the victory.

Marcus Romain finished with 23-points for the Delta Devils. He also added six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Rashaan Surles tallied 11-points, six rebounds and two assist, while Isaac Williams finished with nine-points.

Mississippi Valley will face the Prairie View A & M University Panthers on Saturday, February 18 at 5:00 p.m.
