HUNTSVILLE – Mississippi Valley's Delta Devils entered the contest against the Alabama A & M Bulldogs with an axe to grind, after AAMU defeated them (MVSU) on their home turf 76-79 in early January.
Mississippi Valley entered the contest with their minds set on revenge, whereas Alabama A & M expected home court to prevail. The opening half proved to be a catalyst for the Bulldogs because the Delta Devils smothered them defensively. In the first 20-minutes, MVSU only relinquished 26-points, while scoring 31.
In the second, the Bulldog fans began to get excited as the Alabama A&M's offense arrived. They were able to outmaneuver the Delta Devils to make several great baskets, however Mississippi Valley was able to keep it just close enough in the second to secure a 68-66 victory.
Marcus Romain and Ta'Jay Henry each scored double-doubles for the Delta Devils. Romain tallied 21-points, 10-rebounds, while Henry added 16-points and 11-rebounds. Isaac Williams finished with 13-points.
With the momentum in their favor, MVSU travels on to Montgomery, Alabama, to face the Hornets of Alabama State University Monday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m.
