LAFAYETTE, La. – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes volleyball team suffered two 3-0 losses in their season opener in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Houston Baptist and Jacksonville State.

Game One:

In the opening contest, HBU was able to secure the win in straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-8 and 25-9.

Despite the score, the Devilettes showed determination and skill in the first game of the season. Mississippi Valley finished the contest with 11 kills. MVSU also recorded 28 digs, 11 assists and four blocks.

Kalin Barnes paced the team with six kills and nine digs while Joilyn Azore recorded 11 assists.

Game Two:

Mississippi Valley applied more pressure during their second game of the day, despite dropping the contest in three sets. Despite the Devilettes intensity, JSU captured the win 25-13, 25-14 and 25-15.

MVSU increased their floor presence to record 20 kills. The team recorded 13 errors, one less than the Gamecocks. The Devilettes showed finesse with their 28 digs, 19 assists and three service aces.

Kalin Barnes stepped up to lead the team with 10 digs and eight kills. Nadia Crawford recorded two aces and Jaimie Polk put up 15 assists.
