ITTA BENA - The Devilettes volleyball team home season opener was both thrilling and entertaining. The energy was palpable as Mississippi Valley walked onto the Stribling-Harris Court, inside the R. W. Harrison Complex.
Head Coach Douglas Hunter and his team collected their first home season opener win during his tenure as head coach. The Devilettes showed poise and sheer will over the course of three sets. Dillard gave the team a workout, however with communication flowing on the court, Mississippi Valley was able to score kills and minimize their mistakes.
Despite, the Lady Bleu Devils attempting to formulate a rally, the Devilettes' flame raged higher, collecting the win in straight sets, with scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-19.
Mississippi Valley's rotation showed dominance in the assists, points and digs categories. With 29 assists, Jaime Polk provided the glue to keep the Devilettes' offense moving. Kalin Barnes lead the team with 15 kills and seven digs for the match while defensively Nadia Crawford delivered a phenomenal 20 digs. Taylor Selfridge proved herself as a force with 12 kills, four digs and one ace.
MVSU will compete the Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball roundup in Houston, Texas, over the weekend to start conference play.
