Delta Devils fall to Alabama A&M in home finale

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Alabama A&M Bulldogs proved to be unwelcome guests at the Mississippi Valley State University football team's Senior Day on Saturday, as the visitors left with a 42-14 victory over the Delta Devils.

Quarterbacks Jett Even and Dejerric Bryant accounted for one touchdown apiece for the Delta Devils, but the home team fell short against the Bulldogs (6-5), who improved to 5-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Even, one of 12 seniors honored prior to the game, completed 10 out of 18 pass attempts for 85 yards. He opened the game's scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Stetson Moore with 9:44 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown pass from Even to Moore capped a 10-play, 69-yard drive for the Delta Devils.

Bryant, who made his first appearance in two weeks, capped a 10-play, 83-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run with 3:08 left to play in the third quarter. His touchdown would be the final points scored Saturday, as the teams went scoreless in the final period.

Senior receiver Quinn McElfresh caught five passes for 42 yards against the Bulldogs. Running back John Derrick Smith caught four passes for 52 yards.

Booker Chambers, another Valley senior, led the rushing attack with 34 yards on eight carries; he also caught two passes for 24 yards. Smith rushed nine times for 28 yards.

Tadarius Davis recorded 12 tackles for the Delta Devils (1-9, 1-5 SWAC), including three tackles for loss in the game.

In addition to Even, Chambers, and McElfresh, the Delta Devils honored Morgan Ford, Roderick Foster, Levarence Gilliard, Farrean Toney, Aubrey Powell, Bryant Jones, Darrion Harper, Steven McIntosh, and Patrick Harbin.

The Delta Devils conclude their season on Thanksgiving Day when they visit Alabama State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday.
