Delta Devils Push Past Panthers

ITTA BENA, Miss. --- A second half surge from the Delta Devils propelled them to the finish line with a 76-71 win over Prairie View A&M.

The first half started all in favor of the Panthers of Prairie View as both Zachary Hamilton and Dennis Jones sunk back to back three pointers, which put the Panthers up eight early in the half. However, once the Delta Devils got on the board it was all a matter of trading baskets.

In the first half, the Delta Devils shot only 35.7 percent from the field, 20 percent from beyond the arc, and 40 percent from the charity stripe while the Panthers shot 38.2 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 50 percent from the charity stripe. Shockingly, the first half went by with only a total of 11 team fouls. The bench contributed 13 points for the Delta Devils as Jeffery Lewis came in sinking a three and a jumper.

For the Delta Devils Dante Scott showed evidence of a double-double as he led his team into halftime with eight points and seven rebounds. On the other hand, hot shooting early gave the Panthers an upperhand as they had Zachary Hamilton enter the half with 11 points, Gary Blackston with eight points, and Dennis Jones put up seven points entering halftime.

Fouling from the Delta Devils sent the Panthers to the line most of the second half; however, the Panthers could not convert which helped the Delta Devils maintain their lead. Dante Scott's aggressiveness and good ball movement and team play helped the Delta Devils sink baskets and convert downlow. Gemaal Davis and Kylan Philips both had trips to the charity stripes in the last few minutes of the contest which aided in solidifying the game. Ultimately, the Delta Devils' smart defense in the second half of the second half favored them to the end as they contained the Panthers' shooters.

The Delta Devils played a solid second half that eventually put them up five to win their last home contest against the Panthers of Prairie View A&M. Dante Scott continued to play his game despite having four fouls, and he ended the night with a double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds). Gemaal Davis was effective off the bench, shooting two for two from beyond the arc, which earned him 13 points and five rebounds on the night. Jordan Evans dropped 14 points and pulled in six rebounds, and Kylan Philips rounded the Delta Devils out with 10 points in their win.

The Delta Devils defeated the Panthers of Prairie View A&M 76-71.

The Delta Devils will start their three-game road trip to end the regular season starting with the Tigers of Jackson State, Saturday afternoon. The Delta Devils will visit Grambling State then UAPB to end regular season.
