JACKSON, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, with a sweep of the Tigers of Jackson State for the season in mind.
Arinze Anakwenze scored the opening basket for the Delta Devils at 19:47 after gaining control of the opening tip. Lorenzo Hunt was sent to the charity stripe early, where he smoothly sent the ball through, to extend the MVSU lead to 4-0. Jackson State responded with a three-pointer to make the lead one.
The first half was all defense as neither offense was able to take a dominant stance. After 20-minutes of play, the score was 28-20, in favor of the Tigers.
The second started totally in favor of Jackson State, as they extended their lead. After being down by 10-points early in the half, Mississippi Valley had shortened the lead to two at the 16:21 mark. At 13:48, the score was all tied at 39.
The game went down to the wire and the winner didn't emerge until the final seconds of the contest. With Jackson State holding a one-point advantage, the Delta Devils were unable to pull off a three-pointer to claim the contest, dropping the contest 60-59.
Jordan Evans notched a 20-point night to pace the Delta Devils. Dante Scott pulled another double-double with 18-points, 10-rebounds, one assist and one steal.
MVSU will travel to Grambling, Louisiana to face the Tigers of Grambling State on Monday, February 26
th. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
