ITTA BENA (Baseball) – The second game of the series between the Mississippi Valley Delta Devils and the Eastern Illinois Panthers was hotter than the day before. The bats were ringing for both teams. EIU took the contest 11-6.

At the conclusion of the first inning, both teams had scored one run. Mississippi Valley's was a doozy, as Wendell Rieves struck out swinging at the plate and Willie Johnson stole home. The play was reminiscent of a Jackie Robinson play.

In the second, EIU scored five runners; undeterred MVSU played solid defense to retire the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Delta Devils scored three runners to keep the contest close. Quavante McGregory tripled to bring in Fredrick Spencer, II, and Marshall Parrish. A single by Johnson pushed McGregory home.

The Panthers scored three additional runs in the third and one each in the fifth and sixth innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Mississippi Valley scored two runs. Jancarlos Aponte reached first on an error by the first basemen and advanced to second on the throw. He earned two RBIs for Caleb Collier and Kendrick Wooten scoring.

Mississippi Valley tallied six runs, seven hits and one error. Sherrod Reed was credited with the loss for the Delta Devils.

Mississippi Valley will host the Braves of Alcorn State University over the weekend.
