Delta Devils Rally Back to Defeat Delta State, 6-5

ITTA BENA - (Baseball) For the second time this season, the Delta Devils faced the Statesmen of Delta State University; this time on the campus of Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

The contest started sluggish as neither team was able to score in the opening two innings. The Statesmen climbed onto the scoreboard in the third with one run. In the fourth, fifth and
sixth innings, they were able to add two, one and one run(s) respectively.

The Delta Devils scored once in the sixth, to begin their offensive assault. A sacrifice fly at the hands of Marshall Parrish provided the opportunity for Aaron Barkley to cross home plate.

In the seventh, Mississippi Valley scored two runners to close the score deficit. Barley singled to earn the RBI, when Quavante McGregory scored. The next run for the Delta Devils was Wendell Rieves scored to bring MVSU within three.

In the eighth, the Delta Devils scored an additional two runs to knot the contest at five. Kanaikai Gaughen scored on a sacrifice bunt by McGregory. Jancarlos Aponte scored on Johnson's single down the left line.

Neither team was able to close the contest in the ninth, therefore the teams headed into extra innings. In the tenth, Mississippi Valley closed the gate, preventing the Statesmen from scoring. Rieves doubled down the middle and pushed Willie Johnson across home plate for the win in ten innings.

Barkley took the win for the Delta Devils on the mound. MVSU finished with six runs on nine hits and five errors.

Mississippi Valley will host Alabama A&M University in a three-game series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 3, and 1 respectively.
