ABILENE, Texas (Baseball) – Mississippi Valley State wrapped up the regular season with non-conference opponent Abilene Christian University.
In the final contest, game two of the two-day series, the Delta Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, when Willie Johnson scored on a wild pitch. MVSU scored two additional runs in the fifth and their final run in the top of the seventh.
MVSU's first points of the fifth came when Fredrick Spencer, II singled through the left side, pushing Kendrick Wooten. Wendell Rieves grounded out to the shortstop, however, Quavante McGregory was able to score on the play.
In the seventh, Rieves single to score Wooten once more. Rieves went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Delta Devils.
Brandon Hawkins recorded the loss for the Delta Devils on the mound.
MVSU finished with four runs on five hits and two errors. The final score was 20-4.
Mississippi Valley will head to New Orleans, Louisiana, to face Grambling State University in the opening round of the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament. Game time is set for May 16
th at 12:00 pm.
