Delta Devils Football Falls at UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Mississippi Valley State football (1-5, 0-2) allowed nearly 500 yards of total offense from Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-2, 2-1) in a 38-6 rout on Saturday at Simmons Bank Field. The Golden Lions trailed early and then ran off 38 consecutive points for the win. Dejerric Bryant led the Delta Devils to their only touchdown of the afternoon, a 28-yard keeper on their second possession.

Key Game Stats
  • Dejerric Bryant went 8-for-19 on the afternoon with 32 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
  • Jarius Clayton led MVSU with a team-high 77 rushing yards on six carries and grabbed three receptions for 45-yards.
  • Caleb Johnson added 33 rushing yards while Sedevyn Gray had 20 yards on the ground.
  • Both Johnny Wilson and Malik Myers caught three passes each with Wilson recording 20 receiving yards and 19 for Myers.
  • Defensively, Tadarius Davis and Tracy Thompkins each finished with double-digit tackles against the Golden Lions.
  • Davis recorded 14 total tackles including eight solo and a pair of tackles for a loss of yardage.
  • Thompkins had 10 tackles, four solo, and one tackle for a loss of yards.
  • Andrew Bloodsaw broke up a season-high three passes.
  • Jerry Garner had a tackle for a loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
  • For UAPB, Shannon Patrick was 21-for-28 for 334 total yards and three scores. Taeyler Porter had 20 rushes for 97 yards and two scores.

How It Happened:
  • On their second possession of the game, MVSU went 87-yards on seven plays capped by a 28-yard rushing touchdown by Bryant with 5:19 left in the opening quarter.
  • On that drive, the Delta Devils opened up with three straight rushes by John'Derrick Smith, Bryant, and Clayton driving from their own five-yard line to their 32.
  • Bryant completed a huge 32-yard reception and then found the endzone on second down with a 28-yard keeper through the middle of the Golden Lions defense.
  • The offense struggled the rest of the way collecting only 131 yards without a score.
  • UAPB responded on their next possession scoring on a four-yard rush. The scoring continued with two passing scores in the second, another rushing touchdown in the third, and had both a  passing touchdown and a field goal in the fourth scoring 38 unanswered points.
  • UAPB outgained MVSU 489-299 in total offense.
  • The Delta Devils held a 190-150 yard advantage in rushing yards averaging 5.0 yards per carry.
  • UAPB went 4-for-4 in the red zone as MVSU failed to score on their only trip to the red zone with a turnover on their first possession of the game.
