Mississippi Valley State junior Jerry Garner has been named College Sports Madness FCS Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week representing the Southwestern Athletic Conference for Week 9, announced Sunday.

Garner led the MVSU defense in tackles with a season-high nine in total including five solo stops in the Delta Devils' 35-14 win against Texas Southern on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Chunchula, Ala. native scored twice on defense in the fourth quarter registering a safety and a fumble recovery. On the afternoon, he had two tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.
