Jade Arroyo named to All-SWAC Second Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi Valley State freshman Jade Arroyo (Texas City, Tex.) was named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All-Conference Softball Team. Arroyo was placed on the Second Team as a third baseman.

The first year infielder played 39 games for the Devilettes. She led the team with a .358 batting average, which stands seventh out of all SWAC hitters. Along the way Arroyo contributed 39 base hits, 20 RBI's, 10 walks, slugged .477 and earned an on-base percentage of .423. Her hit total and RBI count also cracked the top ten in the conference. 

At the annual Valley awards banquet, Arroyo was named team MVP and top rookie by Devilettes coach Lee Smith.

Arroyo was the lone player selected from Mississippi Valley in 2019. Tamia Lee-Barbadillo of Alabama A&M won Player/Hitter of the Year while Crystal Castillo of Prairie View A&M won Pitcher of the Year honors. A full list of awardees can be found here.

The Mississippi Valley State softball team finished the season with a 10-31 record.
