ITTA BENA, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State volleyball was unable to stop its losing streak as they were swept by Southeastern Louisiana 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 17-25) at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex Wednesday (Sept. 18).
Tyler Caliste (New Orleans, La.) led Valley with 12 assists, and Tylia Dixon (Chino, Calif.) added 10 digs. True freshmen Zion Hardy (Winterville, N.C.) and Jaziah Anderson (Wiregrass Ranch, Fla.) tied for a team high six kills, and Hardy supplied eight assists as well.
For the Lady Lions, Caroline Golden led the match with 12 kills. Baylee Laskoskie finished with 37 assists, and Lizzy Low tallied 12 digs.
Sets two and three turned for Southeastern Louisiana at the midway point. Valley held a 15-13 lead in the second frame after a kill from Kiya Garza (Cedar Hill, Tex.), but the Lions rallied to win by taking 12 of the last 15 points. The Devilettes closed the gap after a block from Caliste and Chardrea Berthelot (Laplace, La.) to 16-15, but Southeastern Louisiana finished the match on a 9-2 run.
The Devilettes will remain home to challenge Henderson State on September 22nd. A 2 p.m. first serve is on tap.
