MOBILE, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes volleyball team was swept in all six sets during the first day of the Jaguar Invitational Friday (Sept. 6). Northwestern State took care of Valley in the morning 3-0 (7-25, 14-25, 13-25), and Tennessee State won the nightcap 3-0 (18-25, 12-25, 14-25).
With the defeats the Devilettes fall to 1-6 this season.
Valley was saddled with a negative hitting percentage in both matches. Over the doubleheader the team hit 41 kills but countered with 46 errors.
Tyler Caliste (New Orleans, La.) led the way with 14 total kills - four in the Northwestern game and 10 in the TSU game. Zion Hardy (Winterville, N.C.) filled in at setter and earned 25 assists on the day. Jaziah Anderson (Wiregrass Ranch, Fla.) added six putdowns in the night game versus the Tigers.
The closest set for the Devilettes came against Tennessee State. Valley recorded 13 kills - half their total for the match - while coming within seven points of the Tigers.
Mississippi Valley State will complete their stay in Mobile by facing the host South Alabama Jaguars at 2 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 7).
