Simmons led all scorers in the game with
26 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assist. Caleb Hunter finished the game with 20 points despite 7 for 22 from the field.
After twenty minutes of play, The Devils found themselves down by 23 points, but that didn't stop them from coming out of the locker room with the will to get back in the game. Coach Hunter spoke to the team at halftime about chipping away at the deficit one basket at a time, but not forgetting that they would have to make stops on the defensive side of the court to go along with those made baskets.
The Hornets were trying to make highlight reel passes and dunks but came up unsuccessful on a number of occasions to give The Devils easy buckets in fast break opportunities.
The Devils closed the lead down to 2 with :34 seconds to go in the game, but a late turnover gave the ball back to The Hornets. With both teams being in the bonus the free throw line would be the deciding factor for Alabama State.
Alabama State finished the game with 4 players having double digit scoring outputs, including a 20 point performance from Leon Daniels.
Jordan Lyons finished the game with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Brandon Kimble also finished the game with 12 rebounds to go along with his 8 points.
The Devils are back in action Monday night as they will travel to Huntsville to take on Alabama A&M.
