Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stackhouse Bests Hunter As Sluggish Second Half Sinks MVSU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program trailed by just nine at the half (26-17) but a 21-2 Vanderbilt run out the gates in the second half sealed the Devils' fate in a 75-36 loss.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Vanderbilt 75 | Mississippi Valley State 36

  • Records: Mississippi Valley State (0-4, 0-0 SWAC) | Vanderbilt (5-1, 0-0 SEC)

  • Location: Nashville, Tennessee – Memorial Gymnasium

Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Robert Carpenter topped the Green and White in scoring for the third time in-a-row, registering team-bests in both points (11) and rebounds (8) as the latter currently stands as a season-high as well.

  • Gary Grant placed second on the squad in the same categories, scoring six and pulling in five boards

  • Elijah Davis was the only Delta Devil with multiple steals (3) and produced five points while the duo of Caleb Hunter and Lee'Andre Howard contributed a pair of assists each.

Notes

  • The men from Itta Bena had their worst shooting outing in three years, converting just 11-for-55 (20.0%) field goal attempts. The last time the Devils failed to surpass 20% shooting in a game was in a 69-point setback to Nebraska to open the 2018-19 campaign, in which they shot 19.1% from the floor.

  • Shooting was a struggle all around on the night as three-pointers failed to fall as well, making only 5-of-28 (17.9%) from long distance.

Mississippi Valley will play its second mid-major in its first five games, invading Flowers Hall on the campus of North Alabama to try and tame the Lions at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
