Waller Scores 13, McCoy Swipes Five Steals At North Alabama

 
FLORENCE, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program played the Lions close all night long, but UNA shot more than 20% better (55%-34%) from the floor than the Devils which made all the different in a 12-point defeat.

  • David McCoy had his best game since transferring from Southern Miss, posting season-bests in points (7), rebounds (5), field goals (5) and assists (2) while producing a game-high five steals (UNA had 6) with his first three-pointer as a Devil.
 
  • Kadar Waller had his coming out party for Coach Lindsey Hunter, tallying season-highs of 13 points and three field goals with a perfect 6-for-6 line from the charity stripe and his first career make from long distance.
 
  • Elijah Davis had his fourth game with four-plus assists in five contests, logging four helpers and four boards.
 
  • Caleb Hunter was the contest's highest scorer, going for 15 points on a season-best six field goals plus three triples.
 
  • Robert Carpenter went for double-digit points for his fourth straight outing, putting together 14 points and a team leading six boards.
 
  • Lee'Andre Howard got his second consecutive start and cashed in on his first bucket of the campaign on top of corralling a season-high four rebounds.
 
Notes
 
  • MVSU edged out UNA in the free throw department, making one more freebie (10-of-14, 71.4%) than the home squad (9-for-14, 64.3%) in the same number of attempts.
 
  • Valley narrowly edged The Shoals in both turnover margin (21-20) and steals (8-6) but lost the war including the rebounding battle (34-30) and points off turnovers (14-10).
 
The Green and White will make its second and final cross-country trek of 2021-22, flying out of Memphis to Phoenix, Arizona where it will face the Grand Canyon Antelopes at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
