ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University volleyball program had leads of four in the first (9-5), three in the second (6-3), and five in the third (8-3) but could not keep the momentum going, dropping a hard-fought battle with one of the SWAC's elite in straight sets Sunday afternoon.

MVSU had more blocks than the Lady Hornets despite a wide height disadvantage, denying four attacks to Alabama State's three.
 
Jelia Fullerton was the defensive stalwart in the match, posting a game-high 11 digs to go along with a team-best two service aces. She also placed second on the club in points (7) and kills (5) while finishing third for assists (3).
 
Destini Banks was the stopper at the top of the net, spiking two blocks into the floor to tie for the game's most.
 
Keymara Coleman was used as the primary setter on the night, accumulating 11 assists as well as two kills, a block solo, and a dig.
 
Chardea Berthelot was the best offensive player on the court for the Delta Devilettes, fronting the squad with 7.5 points, primarily thanks to seven kills with the other coming off a block assist.
The Delta Devilettes will welcome the other Yellowhammer State conference member, Alabama A&M, to the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex Monday evening with first serve set for 6 p.m.
