Red Storm Uses Hot Shooting To Race Past Valley

 
QUEENS, N.Y. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program fell victim to a once-in-a-lifetime shooting night from the St. John's offense as the Red Storm went 45-of-65 (69.2%) from the floor and 13-for-25 (52.0%) from three to cruise to victory.

How It Happened
 
1st Half
 
  • St. John's took the opening tip straight to the hoop for an easy layup, setting the tone for the evening at hand as they scored 16 of the game's first 19 points.
 
  • SJU would outscore MVSU 43 to 15 over the remaining 15 1/2 minutes of the half as it took a 59-18 lead into the locker rooms.
 
2nd Half
 
  • The men from Itta Bena showed a lot of fight in the second half en route to putting 43 points on the board but the Red Storm scored 60 of its own to open the season with a 58-point triumph, 119-61.
 
Mississippi Valley State Top Performers
 
  • Caleb Hunter (16), Gary Grant (11) and John Aguer (10) made up 60.7% of the Delta Devils' points with Hunter connecting on four triples and Grant topped the squad with three steals.
 
  • Elijah Davis made a good first impression in his collegiate debut as the freshman from Severn, Maryland recorded a game-high seven assists and a team-best five rebounds to go along with five points and two steals in an all-around solid effort.
  
Head Coach Lindsey Hunter and the Delta Devils will fly from one coast to the other, making its way to Riverside, California to tussle with the Lancers of CBU.
