Carpenter Falls One Rebound Shy Of Double-Double Versus Nicholls

 
ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program began its home schedule against the Nicholls Colonels but were unable to overcome a huge halftime deficit despite winning the second half 47-40.

  • Robert Carpenter topped the team with 19 points, a season-high nine rebounds and three blocks plus a personal-best five free throws made.
 
  • Caleb Hunter had season-bests in points (17), field goals (6), assists (5) and steals (4) with the latter two being team-bests for the night as well.
 
  • Elijah Davis had his best shooting performance by far as a Devil, posting new benchmarks in points (15), field goals made (6), steals (3) and free throws made (3) as he went 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the field.
 
  • David McCoy was in a similar boat as Davis, producing personal-bests of 12 points, five field goals and his second multi-assist (2) outing of 2021-22.
 
  • Daniel Umoh set a season-high at six points, John Aguer logged his first two career blocks and made his season debut with a bucket, a pair of boards, a block and a steal.
 
Notes
 
  • The Delta Devils and Colonels both snatched 39 rebounds apiece, the first time that MVSU did not have a negative margin in that category.
 
  • Valley won the turnover battle (+4), had more blocks (8-3) and more steals (13-7) but Nicholls won where it mattered . . . on the scoreboard.
 
The Green and White will have little time to dwell on the loss as the Red Wolves from Arkansas State come to town Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
