Itta Bena, Miss.- With 11.9 seconds left in the game the Delta Devils come up with a big defensive stop and a rebound from Caleb Hunter to give the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils their first win of the season against conference foe Alabama State, by a score of 68-65.
How It Happened
Junior guard Kam'Ron Cunningham carried the Delta Devils with a new career high 34 points added by his five rebounds and four assists. The Delta Devils showed a huge amount of heart tonight as they proved they can be a great defense team if they lock in on the task at hand.
"Great Team Win Tonight", said Head Coach Lindsey Hunter. I'm really proud of how we defended. (Leeandre) Howard really made it tough for them to score in the paint and he's constantly improving which will make us even tougher defensively. Kam'Ron (Cunningham) had his coming out party tonight! TJ (Collins) and Caleb (Hunter) did a great job of controlling the tempo. (Keiondre) Jefferson has been great for us averaging a double-double."
Caleb Hunter closed the game with 13 points and seven assists in 37 minutes of play. Keiondre Jefferson had another productive outing with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Terry Collins led the team in rebounds tonight with 10 added by his nine points.
MVSU shot 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field, 38.5 percent (10-26) from the three-point line, and 63.2 percent (12-19) at the charity stripe.
