Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Caleb Hunter became the first MVSU player to drop six three-pointers in a contest since Kam'Ron Cunningham stung the Hornets with eight bombs last February. The Detroit native was a blistering 6-of-8 (75%) from downtown and made exactly half of his shots (6-for-12) while tying his high for minutes played in 2021-22 with 38.

  • Robert Carpenter continues to build his case for All-Conference honors, pouring in 23 points on 8-for-19 (42.1%) shooting and four triples (4-of-10, 40%) on top of a team-best six boards and a block. It was his third outing in which he scored 20-plus and has now hit double figures in each of his ten appearances.

  • David McCoy had an efficient evening, cashing in on 4-of-7 (57.1%) field goal tries and leading the home side in rebounds (8) and handing out five assists.

  • Elijah Davis tied a personal best with seven assists, which also gave him the co-lead for the game-high in conjunction with ASU's E.J. Clark.

Notes

  • Valley easily had its best shooting game of the season, connecting on a season-best 44.8% attempts from the floor, 48.1% from deep and 13 long balls while scoring its second-highest point total of the year at 75.

  • The Green and White clad Devils had more bench points (22-8) and points off turnovers (17-14) but lost the rebounding battle (39-29) as well as turnover margin (14-13).

Coach Hunter and the guys will look to bounce back on Wednesday evening when it squares off with Alabama A&M at 7:30 p.m. on the friendly fields of the Delta.
