Mississippi Valley State Top Performers

  • Gordon, a second-year freshman thanks to the COVID eligibility year, came off the bench to wow both spectators and teammates with a bombardment of nothing-but-net long balls. The Powder Springs, Georgia native sparked the Green and White with a career-high 32 points, nine triples and four rebounds on top of shooting a blistering 50% from the floor and 47.1% on buckets behind the arc. He became the first Mississippi Valley player since 2017 to drop at least 25-plus as a reserve, when Marcus Romain tallied 30 against Alcorn.

  • Robert Carpenter was the only other player with more than nine points on the ledger, contributing 17 points on 7-of-15 (46.7%) from the court.

  • Gary Grant had a season-high total of eight rebounds to top all his teammates in that category and nearly pulled off the team's first double-double of the season with nine points as well.

  • Elijah Davis did not score but was vital to the success of Gordon and Carpenter as all his six assists went to one of those two leading scorers (four to Gordon, two to Carpenter).

  • David McCoy also contributed one-third of the club's 18 assists along with Davis, handing out six helpers as well on top of a season-best six rebounds and having the same number of steals individually than Alabama A&M had as a unit (3).

Notes

  • MVSU made ten-plus three-pointers for the second straight outing after not reaching that number over the first ten contests.

  • The Devils only turned the ball over eight times to the Bulldogs' 17 but a 19-rebound discrepancy (51-32) on the boards was hard to overcome.

The men from Itta Bena head west to Houston on Saturday for a date with PVAMU at 5:30 p.m. inside the William Nicks Building.
