Yale Prevails In First All-Time Meeting Between Programs


HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program was shown that brawns and brains can mix as the Yale Bulldogs took control of the game early en route to an 80-51 victory over the Delta Devils Sunday evening on the island.

Mississippi Valley State Top Performers:
 
  • For the second consecutive ballgame, Terry Collins led the team in both points and rebounds, scoring 15 once again and adding one more board than he did a night earlier for a game-high seven while pushing his made free-throw streak up to 13 in-a-row. Collins also kept MVSU from getting shut out from distance, hitting the club's lone three-pointer and one of its two assists.
 
  • Alvin Stredic joined Collins in hitting double-digits, dropping 13 points to go along with four boards and a steal.
 
  • Arecko Gipson nabbed a pair of steals on the defensive end on top of collecting eight points and Kadar Waller produced nine points primarily from the line where he went 5-for-6 (83.3%).
 
Notes:
 
  • The Devils doubled up the Bulldogs at the charity stripe, converting 18-of-29 (62.1%) while Yale went 9-for-16 (56.3%).
 
  • For the first time this season, the Green and White committed fewer fouls than its counterparts, as no Delta Devil player had more than three while they had only 16 total as a unit.
 
Valley State will end its nearly weeklong adventure on the islands Monday evening as it wraps up the Rainbow Classic against the Eastern Washington Eagles at 8:30 p.m. central time.
