ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University athletics program recognizes football's
Jalen Bell and men's basketball's
Terry Collins as the MVSU student-athletes of the week.
Bell, a junior defensive lineman from Detroit, Miichigan, set a pair of career-highs in Saturday's game at Southern, leading the team with eight tackles and dropping three ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage for a trio of tackles for loss.
Collins, a senior guard from Kenner, Louisiana, was named to the Rainbow Classic All-Tournament Team as he averaged a team-best 15 points and five rebounds on top of a squad-high seven three-pointers. The former Independence Community College transfer shot 38.9% from deep on 18 attempts, collected two steals and two assists as well as going 12-of-12 from the free-throw line to keep his perfect percentage alive at the charity stripe at 17-for-17 to start the season.
Football ends its season on Saturday at 1 p.m. as it hosts Prairie View A&M on Senior Day while men's basketball opens its home schedule on Friday versus North Alabama at 7 p.m. before traveling to SEC country to battle Missouri at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night.
