BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program won not only its first contest of the season but also its first weekly award winner as well as
Terry Collins was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Collins, a senior guard from Kenner, Louisiana, was borderline unstoppable in the team's games versus North Alabama and Missouri, which included leading Valley to its first non-conference NCAA Division I win since 2018 after toppling UNA on Friday. He set career-highs in points (27 in both games), 40 minutes played (vs. UNA), 10 field goals made (at Mizzou), 10 free throws made (vs. UNA) and 2 blocks (vs. UNA). The Bonnabel High School alumni also went for a season-high 5 three-pointers at Missouri. For the weekend, he shot 39.5% (17-of-43) from the floor, 44.4% (8-of-18) from deep, and 85.7% (12-for-14) from the line while averaging 29 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists, and one block.
The honor is his first at Valley State since transferring from Independence Community College prior to the 2020-21 season.
The Delta Devils men's hoops squad are back on the court tomorrow evening when it hopes to ground the Falcons of the United States Air Force Academy at 5 p.m. central time in Colorado Springs.
