ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University athletics program recognizes football's Orlando Fernandez and men's basketball's Terry Collins as the MVSU student-athletes of the week.
 
Fernandez, a senior specialist from Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, was named SWAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time in his career after helping the Devils beat Prairie View A&M on Saturday. He made both of his field goal attempts from 36 and 26 yards away plus was a perfect 3-for-3 on point after tries. As a punter, the Cisco College transfer helped stifle the Panthers offense by pinning them inside their own 20 three times during his five boots, averaging nearly 40 net yards without a single touchback.

Collins, a senior guard from Kenner, Louisiana, was borderline unstoppable in the team's games versus North Alabama and Missouri, which included leading Valley to its first non-conference NCAA Division I win since 2018 after toppling UNA on Friday. He set career-highs in points (27 in both games), 40 minutes played (vs. UNA), 10 field goals made (at Mizzou), 10 free throws made (vs. UNA) and 2 blocks (vs. UNA). The Bonnabel High School alumni also went for a season-high 5 three-pointers at Missouri. For the weekend, he shot 39.5% (17-of-43) from the floor, 44.4% (8-of-18) from deep, and 85.7% (12-for-14) from the line while averaging 29 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists, and one block.

Football's season has come to an end while men's basketball will spend Thanksgiving week in Colorado as it travels to Air Force on Wednesday then Colorado State on Saturday
