ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University athletics program recognizes women's basketball's
Zakiya Mahoney and men's basketball's
Arecko Gipson.as the MVSU student-athletes of the week.

Mahoney, a graduate student guard from Oakland, California, played a season-high 36 minutes and converted a campaign-best six free throws made en route to her seventh career 20-point performance, second in the past week, when she dropped that amount on 16th-ranked Utah in the Pac-12 / SWAC Legacy Series. Â

Gipson, a junior guard/forward from Memphis, Tennessee, recorded his first double-double as a Delta Devil with a game/season-high 10 rebounds plus 10 points while leading the team with five assists at (RV) Mississippi State. For the two contests versus Arkansas State and MSU, he topped the squad with 17 boards and five assists while averaging 8.5 rebounds, five points, 2.5 assists, plus 0.5 steals.
The Devilettes' next showdown will be a morning matinee at New Orleans for an 11 a.m. tip-off on Wednesday, December 14 while the Delta Devils travel to Wichita State to battle the Shockers at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13.
