Tough Loss for Diamond Devils in Final Play Against Southeastern Louisiana

HAMMOND, La. - Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils fell to Southeastern 2-1 on Wednesday evening on the final play of the game at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. 

The contest was tied at one with Southeastern batting in the bottom of the tenth when TJ Salvaggio hit a solo homer.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Southeastern pitchers struck out 13, while Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils sat down eight.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Southeastern tied things up at one when Tyler Finke doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

"We are starting to play a really good brand of baseball. We just have to learn how to finish," said head coach Milton Barney. " I am proud of the guys coming in with a winning mindset and battling a really good Southeastern team."

James Snipes took the loss for the Diamond Devils. Snipes went one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Azalius Lewis started the game for the Diamond Devils, allowing only one hit and one run while striking out six.

MVSU collected seven hits as Michael Buckley and Christopher King each managed two hits to lead the team.

The Diamond Devils return to Magnolia Field to host a weekend series against Jackson State Tigers from Friday, March 31 to Sunday, April 2. The first pitch for Friday set for 3:00 p.m.
