The Diamond Devils' fired up the offense in the first inning when Figueroa drove in three with a homer.

Figueroa homered in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and doubled in the eighth.

"We swung the bats well as a team," said Head Coach Milton Barney. "We are still learning to close teams out, but this was a big morale boost for the guys tonight - to get a series sweep."

The Diamond Devils scored five runs in the third inning. MVSU's offense in the inning came from singles by Maury Weaver and Figueroa and a home run by Davione Hull.

MVSU socked four home runs on the day. Hull put one out in the third inning. Dreylin Holmes had a four-bagger in the seventh inning. Figueroa had a dinger in the first inning. Christopher King had a homer in the second inning.

MVSU tallied 18 hits. Figueroa, Holmes, Michael Buckley, Hull, and Weaver, individually had multiple hits. Holmes and Figueroa all had four hits to lead the team in hits. Holmes led MVSU with three stolen bases as they ran wild on the base paths with 11 stolen bases.

Azalius Lewis led things off on the hill for Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. The pitcher surrendered six runs on eight hits over three innings, striking out one.

"This weekend will be a tough test against a very good Alabama State team," said Coach Barney. "We will have to continue to swing the bats and try to put up some zeros on the scoreboard. We are playing some good baseball, just have to keep the momentum heading to Montgomery."
