HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Mississippi Valley State University Diamond Devils snatched the lead late in the game in a 5-3 victory over Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon.
The game was tied at three with the Diamond Devils batting in the top of the seventh when Victor Figueroa tripled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.
Figueroa went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Diamond Devils in hits.
Zachery Sigmon was credited with the victory for MVSU. Sigmons lasted two and third innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out two and walking one.
Calvin McClendon started the game for MVSU. McClendon went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.
"The guys are playing for respect and doing a great job of fighting," Head Coach Milton Barney said. "That's all we can ask for."

The final series of the 2023 season will conclude with a double-header against AAMU Bulldogs. Game One is set to begin with the first pitch at 1:00 p.m. Game Two is set at 3:00 p.m.
