Bethune-Cookman Pulls Away from Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils with a 20-10 Victory

Itta Bena, MS (October 19, 2024) – The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (0-7, 0-3) fought hard but ultimately fell short in their homecoming matchup against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (1-6, 1-2) at Rice-Totten Stadium, with a final score of 20-10.

The game started with promise for the Delta Devils, as Marko Jovisic nailed a 45-yard field goal to give MVSU an early 3-0 lead. However, the Wildcats responded in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Luke Sprague and a 34-yard touchdown pass from Sprague to Lorenzo Jenkins, putting Bethune-Cookman up 14-3 at halftime.

MVSU showed signs of life in the third quarter when Ty'Jarian Williams capped off a 13-play, 75-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, narrowing the deficit to 17-10. However, the Delta Devils were unable to score again as Bethune-Cookman sealed the game with a fourth-quarter field goal.

Bethune-Cookman's defense held strong, limiting the Delta Devils to just 136 rushing yards and forcing a key turnover late in the game. MVSU's offense struggled to convert on third downs, going just 4 of 16 in the game.

DePhabian Fant provided a spark for the Delta Devils with a 54-yard run, but the team couldn't find consistency against a resilient Wildcats defense. Williams finished with 175 passing yards but threw a crucial interception late in the game.

Despite the loss, MVSU played with heart in front of 9,321 fans, but they will need to regroup as they continue to search for their first win of the season.
