BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's basketball program has now had a student-athlete either win a weekly accolade or be named to an All-Tournament Team in three of the first four weeks as Michael James brought home his second SWAC Newcomer of the Week after lighting up the SEC's Texas A&M.
James, a junior guard from Byhalia, Mississippi, cut through the Aggies' defense like butter just a few months following a year in which they earned a #4 seed in March Madness.
The former Meridian Community College Eagle nailed 66.7% of his field goal attempts (10-of-15) and was even more impressive from distance, swishing 70% of his long range calls (7-for-10) en route to a game-high 32 points in 33 minutes.
The now two-time award winner (November 11 and December 3) was also a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line, assisted four teammates' buckets, brought down a pair of boards, and stole an errant pass.
James and company are back on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. when they take on the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in "The Boot".
