RUSTON, LA | Mississippi Valley State University volleyball completed a three-match Louisiana road swing at the Bulldog Bash, facing Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech and ULM Sept. 10–12. The Delta Devils closed the weekend with a hard-fought third-set victory against ULM, highlighted by a double-double from
Erin Mims and contributions throughout the lineup.
MVSU fell in straight sets to Northwestern State and tournament host Louisiana Tech in Ruston before dropping a four-set decision to ULM in Monroe. The Delta Devils return to Itta Bena with a 1–7 record and will look to regroup when they host Dillard.
Mississippi Valley State vs. Northwestern State
The Delta Devils opened the Bulldog Bash on Thursday with a 3–0 setback to Northwestern State at the Thomas Assembly Center, falling 25–21, 25–15 and 25–14.
Taylor Wooten and
Aubrie Walker paced MVSU with five kills apiece. Wooten also led the team with nine digs and contributed three block assists, while Walker added three digs, two block assists and a service ace.
Aniyah Moore anchored the front row with five block assists and added three kills on a .222 hitting percentage.
Brooklyn Brunt finished with three kills and two block assists as MVSU totaled eight team blocks, doubling Northwestern State's four.
Mims directed the offense with 10 assists and added seven digs.
Kameryn Browne and
Taylor Wilson each collected eight digs, with Browne also contributing four assists.
MVSU challenged Northwestern State in the opening set, recording eight kills and limiting its opponent to a .021 hitting percentage before the Demons pulled away to secure the match.
Mississippi Valley State vs. Louisiana Tech
MVSU continued tournament play Friday against Louisiana Tech, falling 3–0 by scores of 25–10, 25–12 and 25–22.
After a difficult opening two sets, the Delta Devils responded with their strongest offensive frame of the match. MVSU produced 11 kills and hit .182 in the third set, pushing the Lady Techsters before Louisiana Tech closed out the victory.
Walker led the Delta Devils with six kills, six digs and a service ace. Brunt added four kills and two block assists, while Moore contributed two kills and three total blocks.
Mims finished with eight assists and four digs, and Browne supplied six assists, five digs and an ace.
Ashlynn Hawkins and Wilson shared the team lead with eight digs each as MVSU recorded 41 digs.
Mississippi Valley State vs. ULM
The Delta Devils concluded the trip Saturday at B1Bank Fant Coliseum, extending ULM to four sets before falling 25–11, 25–19, 24–26 and 25–11.
MVSU delivered its best offensive set of the weekend in the third, registering 11 kills against just three errors for a .235 hitting percentage. The 26–24 victory kept the Delta Devils alive before ULM secured the fourth set.
Mims posted a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs, while Browne added 14 assists. Both setters recorded a service ace. Walker again paced the offense with eight kills. Wooten contributed seven kills and a team-high 12 digs, while Moore finished with six kills and six total blocks.
Hannah St. Croix provided an efficient offensive performance, recording four kills without an error on seven attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. Brunt added four kills and three total blocks, and
Madison Conley contributed three kills and a solo block.
Hawkins and Wilson each finished with 10 digs, giving MVSU four players in double figures. The Delta Devils totaled 32 kills, 53 digs and eight team blocks.
