ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State is officially on the hunt for a new men's head basketball coach.
Sean Woods, who has led the Delta Devil program for the last four years, was introduced Monday afternoon as the head coach at Morehead State, a Kentucky-based school which competes in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Woods leaves MVSU with a 50-80 record and is coming off one of the most succesful campaigns in school history. Last season, Valley went on a 17-game win streak and won the SWAC regular season and tournament title. The Delta Devils advanced to their fifth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, where they suffered a narrow loss to Western Kentucky.
The Delta Devils increased their win total each season under Woods. During his first season in 2008-09, MVSU went 7-25 before finishing 9-23 in 2009-10. Valley finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 13-19 record and concluded last season 21-13.
Woods will take over for Donnie Tyndal, who took the same position at Southern Miss in April.
MVSU will begin an immediate national search for a new head coach to lead the Delta Devil program.
