MVSU nearly upsets TCU

Box Score FORTH WORTH, Texas -- Mississippi Valley State nearly pulled off an upset win over TCU Sunday in its final non-conference game of the season.

The Delta Devils, who led 62-60 with 2:30 left, was unable to hold off TCU (9-4) and fell 67-64 as the Delta Devils closed out its non-conference slate.

MVSU (0-10) trailed by as much as eight points in the second half but freshmen Darius Tomlin and Matt Smith helped pull Valley back. Blake Ralling's layup tied the game at 60 and Darryl Marshall's layup with 2:30 left in the game gave the Delta Devils the lead. But TCU regained the lead with 34 seconds left and converted three of four late-game free throws to seal the victory.

Matt Smith led Valley with 17 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocks while Darius Tomlin added 13 points. Blake Ralling, who made two 3's on the night, finished with nine points while Marshall added eight points and seven assists.

Three TCU players scored in double-figures with Kyan Anderson pacing them with 16 points and five assists.

MVSU shot 46 percent on the night, but made only 4-of-10 free throws. TCU made 49.1 percent of its shots.

The Delta Devils will be back in action Wednesday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its conference opener.
