GRAMBLING, La. -- The wins keep coming for Mississippi Valley State.
The Delta Devils (17-11, 16-0 SWAC) defeated the Tigers of Grambling State, 79-60, to extend the nation's third-longest win streak to 16 games.
"That's all we want to do," said MVSU head coach Sean Woods, "is continue to get better."
In the final road trip of the regular season, Valley fought off a Grambling team that is currently at the bottom of the conference standings.
Terrence Joyner, MVSU's leading scorer, paced the Delta Devils with 20 points on 8-of-13 shots. He also went 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Freshman guard Brent Arrington had an effective outing on both sides of the court, with 13 points and three steals.
Cor-J Cox added 14 points off the bench while Paul Crosby, the reigning SWAC Player of the Week, contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
Quincy Roberts paced the Tigers with 28 points and seven boards.
Valley led the entire game, but for the first 20 minutes GSU stayed within striking range of the Delta Devils. MVSU led 32-28 at halftime.
MVSU opened up the lead in the second half and led by as much as 21 points late in the game.
The Delta Devils scored 24 points off turnovers and outscored the Tigers 30-12 in the paint.
"If we can defend and get easy buckets," said Woods, "we should be all right."
The Delta Devils will face Jackson State on Monday at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
