Delta Devils' win streak ends at 17

Box Score

ITTA BENA – Mississippi Valley State’s historic 17-game win streak came to an abrupt end Thursday night with a 78-67 loss at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the final regular season game of the season.

The loss ends the Delta Devils’ chance of becoming the first SWAC men’s basketball team to finish 18-0 in the conference.
Valley will, however, still have the No. 1 seed in next week’s SWAC Tournament in Garland, Texas.

Cor-J Cox led the Delta Devils with 19 points while Amos Studivant had 13. Kevin Burwell, Paul Crosby and Terrence Joyner chipped in 10 points apiece.

"It's tough when the monkey's on your back,” said MVSU head coach Sean Woods. “Maybe this is a wakeup call going into the tournament."
Daniel Broughton led UAPB with 27 points.

MVSU will play the No. 8 seed in next week’s tournament, which will be either Jackson State or Alabama A&M. Valley will play at 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Special Events Center in Garland, Texas. Tickets can be purchased at www.swachoops.org .
