Grambling had a chance to send it to overtime, but Jessica White missed two free throws that sealed the victory for the visting Devilettes. The Lady Tigers made just 7 of 21 free throws on the night.
Valley used a team effort, with three players -- A'Shanti Weathers, Lenise Stallings and Derita Silas -- leading the way with nine points each. MVSU's Joncyee Sanders filled up the box score with six points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Sanders, who has been a key piece of the MVSU team all season, said head coach Elvis Robinson told the team to stay focused despite their early troubles.
"Basically, we had to keep our heads level and play with intensity and play as a team," said Sanders.
MVSU will be on the road Saturday at Alabama A&M.
