UAPB leads the series 22-21-1

ITTA BENA -- Saturday will mark the third straight homecoming game Mississippi Valley State has played in.

But this time it'll be their own.

The Delta Devils will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday at 2 p.m. for homecoming at Rice-Totten Stadium after defeating Alabama A&M on Oct. 5 for its homecoming and falling to Prairie View A&M last week for its homecoming.

The Golden Lions (0-7, 0-5 SWAC) are winless, but don't judge them by their record, said MVSU head coach Karl Morgan.

"Good quarterback, some good skill players that have been around since I've been in the conference," he said. "Their quarterback was a redshirt freshman during my second year (at Valley)."

MVSU is coming off a 51-14 loss to Prairie View. In that game, Jeremy Collins replaced starting quarterback Patrick Ivy early in the first quarter after Ivy appeared to still have problems from a previous injury. Ivy, however, entered the game again late in the first half after Collins left with an injury.

Morgan said he expects either Ivy or junior Carl Davis to get the start under center Saturday.

Boykin ranked 8th in FCS in interceptions
MVSU junior cornerback Avery Boykins is ranked 8th in the nation in interceptions with four. He returned a 52-yard interception for a score on Oct. 5 at Alabama A&M. He ranks first in the SWAC in interceptions.

Jones tied for 2nd in SWAC in interceptions
MVSU junior safety Davon Jones, who is in his first year at Valley afteer transferring from Glendale Community College, is tied for second in the SWAC in interceptions with three.

MVSU's defense ranked fourth in SWAC
The MVSU defense is ranked fourth in the SWAC, allowing 363 yards per game.

MVSU offensive line tops SWAC in sacks against
The MVSU offensive line has given up just eight sacks this season, which ranks them first in the SWAC and tied for 22nd among all FCS teams.
