Devilettes rally back to clip Lady Hornets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Mississippi Valley State overcame a rough shooting night and a 10-point second half deficit Monday night to win its third straight game following a 53-48 victory over Alabama State.

The Devilettes (10-12, 7-4 SWAC) made all six free throw attempts in the final 35 seconds and held on to finish off a regular season sweep over the Lady Hornets (7-15, 5-6 SWAC).

ASU held the lead until A'Shanti Weathers made two free throws with 35 seconds left to give MVSU a 49-48 advantage. Alia Frank and Lenise Stallings then made a pair of free throws each in the final seconds to seal the victory for the Devilettes.

Valley downed the Lady Hornets despite shooting only 21.2 percent in the first half and 25 percent for the game.

Lenise Stallings made five 3's and led MVSU with 19 points while Alia Frank put up her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Kierra Page paced ASU with 18 points.

MVSU will be back in action Saturday when they host Alcorn State at 3 p.m. Fans are asked to wear green to the game.
