Box Score GARLAND, Texas -- The last 10 minutes of every Mississippi Valley State practice ends with Devilette players shooting free throws.
Practice apparently makes perfect as Valley's Lenise Stallings converted all six key free throws down the stretch Thursday to send the Devilettes into Friday's SWAC Tournament semifinals after a 63-60 win over Alabama A&M.
"I like those moments to be handled by seniors," said MVSU first-year coach Elvis Robinson. "I'm glad she knocked those down."
Stallings, who scored all 17 points in the second half, said despite the consequences surrouding the shots, she didn't get distracted.
"It's not surprised that I made those shots," said Stallings, who finished 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. "I'm blessed that I made all of them."
Neither was Robinson shocked that the Hattiesburg native came through in the clutch.
"Those moments, I don't flinch and they don't flinch," he said. "We're battle tested."
Valley's win advances them to Friday's semifinal showdown against former MVSU coach Nate Kilbert and Arkansas-Pine Bluff at noon. It'll mark the second consecutive year that the Devilettes have played in the semifinals. The game will be on shown live on

MVSU led 30-26 at halftime after an A'Shanti Weathers buzzer beater 3-pointer. And the Devilettes lead by as much as nine points in the second half, but A&M stormed back and a NaDra Robertson 3-point play put the Lady Bulldogs up 49-44 with 5:36 left.
Stallings responded with a 3-pointer and Jasmyne Sanders tied the game at 49 on a layup with 3:57 left.
The Devilettes looked to be sprinting to an easy victory, up 61-56 with nine seconds remaining. But four quick points -- two free throws and a layup -- from A&M's Brittney Strickland cut MVSU's lead to 62-60 with two seconds left.
Stallings' free throws, however, sealed the win for the Devilettes.
Stallings paced MVSU with 17 points while Jasmyne Sanders chipped in 13 off the bench. A'Shanti Weathers had her first-ever double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Joncyee Sanders filled up the box score with nine assists and 11 rebounds.
Valley's bench outscored the Lady Bulldogs 22-7.
"That's the mentality we want to have. We don't depend on one player," said Robinson.
Strickland led A&M with 20 points while Jasmine Sanders added 11.
The Deviletttes shot 33.3 percent from the field and converted on 19 of 23 free throw attempts.
A win over UAPB on Friday will put the Devilettes in Saturday's championship game set for noon.
"This game is about peaks and valleys," Robinson said. "One thing we stress is to have more peaks than valleys."
