JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi Valley State senior football student-athlete Julian Stafford was honored Monday night by the Jackson Touchdown Club.
Stafford was recognized as the team's Most Valuable Senior for his efforts during the 2014 season during an annual reception held at the River Hills Club. The Jackson Touchdown Club's C Spire Wireless Most Valuable Senior Award was given who exhibited outstanding leadership on and off the field.
This past season, Stafford led the SWAC with 67 receptions for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns. He became just the fifth player in school history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season.
Stafford is also nominated for the Conerly Trophy Award, which is awarded to the top football player in the state. That ceremony is set for Tuesday night in Jackson at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
