BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mississippi Valley State placed three Delta Devils on the 2019 All-SWAC Football Teams, announced Wednesday by the league office. Senior linebacker Tracy Thompkins was named to the all-conference first team while junior defensive lineman Jerry Garner and senior defensive back Jonathan Jones were selected to the all-conference second team.

The Miami, Fla. native, Tracy Thompkins recorded 107 tackles, 12.5 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and pass breakups, two fumble recovery, one sack and an interception leading the Delta Devils defense in 2019. He led the SWAC in tackles averaging 9.7 per game. In six games, he had double-digit tackles including a season-high 15 tackles at Lamar. 

Jerry Garner recorded 53 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, five quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and a safety for MVSU. The Chunchula, Ala. native led the conference in solo tackles for a loss (13), in sacks (9), and in fumbles recovered (3). He was second in total tackles for a loss (16.0). 

The senior defensive back from DeKalb, Miss., Jonathan Jones recorded 54 tackles, eight pass breakups, three interceptions, and a forced fumble for the Delta Devils football team in 2019. Jones made 34 solo tackles and recorded five or more tackles in nine games including a season-high seven stops against Jackson State. He led the defense with two interceptions against Texas Southern and had three pass breakups in their season opener at Tennessee State.
