Devilettes Women's Basketball Announces 2020 Signing Class

Itta Bena, Miss.- The Mississippi Valley State Women's Basketball team added more depth and athleticism to its roster with the signing of seven new student-athletes, announced by Head Coach Ashley Walker-Johnson.

"We are excited to welcome our 2020 recruiting class to our program and feel as a staff we were able to replace key positions for our program. My staff and I feel confident that our returners along with our new class will help us to compete at a much higher level. We will have the depth, speed and scoring ability in both the front and back court to allow us to compete across the board in building a championship program," Walker-Johnson said.

Malon Garner - Quick and athletic guard that is explosive in the open court and has great floor vision. Garner can score the ball at any time; she is a pest on the defensive end.

Isabel Lizarraga - Very savvy guard with a high basketball I.Q. that brings immediate experience and steadiness to our program. Lizarraga does a great job of creating for her teammates and being able to find them in tight spaces; as well as the ability to score the ball. She has a leadership quality that will allow her to lead by action and bring good energy to the team.

Zakiya Mahoney - A strong and dominate experience combo guard that will bring a toughness and size that we've been missing. Mahoney's high activity level, high energy and high motor allows her to score the ball from anywhere on the floor as well as help clean up on the rebounding end.  A tough-minded player with a competitive drive that will compete day in and day out.

DaSha McGloster - Long and athletic guard that can defend multiple positions as well as score the ball around the basket. McGloster's length allows her the ability to shoot over defenders and take advantage over smaller guards. We will be better defenders in the half and full court with her length and athletic ability.

Annya Moss - High energy, high motor guard that can put the ball on the floor as well as shoot it from deep. Moss's quick and savvy ball play will help us to play at a faster pace and will allow for exciting transition basketball. Annya's activity level also gives her the ability to do the things that don't show up in the stats.

Carria Smith - Active and physical post player that will add another dominant presence on the inside as well as help defensively.  Smith's ability to play at a high level with a high motor will give us the depth we've been missing.

Aniyah Vanhook - High IQ, quick and crafty guard that can create for herself as well as her teammates.  Vanhook is a coach's kid, so her basketball IQ is at a place that will allow her to be an impact in a vial position. Along with Aniyah's ability to score the basketball she also can defend; Aniyah's length and athletic ability will cause for exciting basketball on the defensive end.
