Scouting The Ole Miss Rebels
Â
The University of Mississippi was picked to finish sixth in the SEC but got off to a disappointing start to the season by dropping its season opener to Belmont on Thursday, 62-50.
Â
Ole Miss will rely on superstar Shakira Austin to continue her stretch of dominance, as the All-SEC First Teamer has been placed on Preseason Watch Lists for the Naismith, Wooden, Wade and Lisa Leslie Awards for 2021-22. She appeared in 27 games for the Rebels last season with 26 starts, averaging 18.6 points and 9.1 boards on top of 48 blocks, 43 steals and 35 assists.
Â
Austin will have a strong supporting cast around her as U of M brought back SEC Freshman of the Year Madison Scott, SEC All-Freshman Team selection Snudda Collins plus veterans Donnetta Johnson and Mimi Reid from a squad that earned a trip to the WNIT Championship Game a season ago.
