BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University men's and women's basketball programs each had a player win a weekly conference award as student-athletes Robert Carpenter and Mikayla Etienne were named Men's Impact and Women's Player of the Week, respectively.

Carpenter, a junior forward from Detroit, Michigan, posted game and season-highs for points (27), field goals (10), three-pointers (5), and blocks (2) while recording a season-best seven rebound plus two free throws to help the Delta Devils build a five-point halftime lead over Ole Miss last Friday. He played all but 60 seconds against the Rebels, shooting 52.6% (10-of-19) from the floor and 71.4% (5-for-7) from deep while committing just one turnover. On Monday at Vanderbilt, the Pearl River Community College transfer topped Coach Hunter's group with 11 points and a season-high eight boards along with a pair of three-pointers, a steal, and a 5-of-6 effort from the charity stripe.

Etienne, junior guard from Monroe, Louisiana, averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 field goals, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 threes, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 assists in three games versus Murray State, Southeast Missouri State, and Southern Miss last week. A transfer from Southwest Mississippi Community College, the Ouachita Parish High School graduate went off for a personal-high seven field goals opposite SEMO and then followed that up the following morning with a season/game-best 18 points against the host of the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, Southern Miss.

Carpenter and the Delta Devils make its next stop on its season-opening cross country journey on Saturday night at Grand Canyon (7 p.m.) while Etienne and the Delta Devilettes will be back in action on Sunday afternoon at Louisiana Tech (2 p.m.).
