ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State women's basketball program will not be able to compete in its conference opening contest against the Alabama State Lady Hornets due to COVID-19 protocols.
According to the updated COVID-19 Operational Protocols as released by the Southwestern Athletic Conference on Thursday afternoon; "If a team is unable to compete due to COVID-19 related issues, the game will be counted as a forfeit for the purpose of the conference standings, resulting in a loss for the team that caused the cancellation and a win for the opposing team."
As a result, Mississippi Valley State's overall record will remain at 1-8 while its conference record drops to 0-1. Alabama State will get the league victory and improve to 1-0 in the SWAC, retaining its current overall record of 2-8.
The Delta Devils men's basketball game versus Alabama State remains on schedule with tipoff slated for 4 p.m. inside the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on Monday afternoon.
The next opponent on the Devilettes' docket is Alabama A&M, who is set to make its way to Itta Bena for a Wednesday night showdown at 5:30 p.m. with the men to take place afterwards.
